It can definitely be said, that a lot of businesses moved from the pandemic wounded, with sometimes a large drop in sales, therefore their marketing to now needs to standout more than ever.
This is seen some businesses have invested more heavily in having their website redesigned, some might have even closed up shop on the high street and decided that online is the only way for them to sell their products because of the lower overheads.
This has meant that where some companies may have had a very basic website, they may have upgraded it in 2022 to much more quality website, to help them obtain more sales.
Make it your own
Now it’s probable that not one other web design agency have compared craft beer to web design, but we think the two are quite interlinked.
For example, when you think of the beer industry, there were, and there still are some brands which dominate the market.
This is the same for web design in terms of there was a style for many companies, was just to go for a professional look, using a lot of white, using the same fonts, and just making the website look very corporate.
This seemed like the default option for a lot of businesses, but what we are now definitely seeing more of is more businesses using very bright colour schemes, different fonts, good branding to help their business stand out and be unique.
You can again see this when it comes to craft beer, if was going to a shop that sells craft beer you can see some really good design on the labels that help the company to stand out.
Catchy names, and good company branding are often used, and a lot of the craft beer brands have been really creative with their marketing, and you’re seeing this with web design, in the businesses don’t just want to have a corporate style any more, they want to be individual, they want to make the brand their own and this means that you need a good web designer to help you with this.
So, it might seem a bit of a stretch to compare craft beer with web design, but we definitely think there’s a link between the two, and not wanting to follow the leader, instead many companies want to go their own path and create their own company branding for sure.
Isn’t it nice when things just work
Sometimes a business wants a website that is to simply too complicated, and that the homepage just becomes overly cluttered and sometimes there’s just too much coding to allow all the different functions to work, it can therefore it takes an eternity for the website too load, say on a smartphone, even if you pay the very best in website hosting.
So, what we think businesses are turning more to is simplicity, a lot of businesses simply want a website that just simply works and offers the products or services and offer good customer service but without being too be overly complicated.
For example, there was long trend in web design have auto loading video at the top of a homepage when a customer visited it, and although this can give a good impression of what the business offers, it can do simply slow the whole website down.
Yet in reality what’s really that needed is if you sell bikes people really don’t really want see somebody enjoying their self-going through the forest on an electric bike, yes sure looks visually great, and might grab a shopper’s attention for second, yet in reality is not really doing much to help sell products or services.
What shoppers might prefer is just a well-designed website, with distinctive branding, which allows them to just quickly get to the section of the website the sells what they want.
For example, they may want the main menu to be so easy-to-use that they can get to saddle they want to buy for their bike easily.
A shopper often doesn’t want to get distracted by a 30 second video which doesn’t really help them find the bike saddle that they want to purchase, yet a well-designed website with a main menu that is super simple to use will help them find the exact product they want and quickly.
So we think is definitely gone full circle in terms of web design is now is about helping the customer, it’s not about making the website overly complicated, is simply about offering good old-fashioned customer service.
Make it faster.
In June 2021, Google started rolling out its Page Experience update, and this leads us on to a previous point, is about making the websites better for your customers so they find it easier to find the service of the product that they want quickly.
And this illustrates our point perfectly, when we talked earlier about there was once a trend to have an auto loading video on the home page, yet as any good web designer will know, this can slow the whole website down.
Is all about speed, your company website should be fast on a mobile, and should also be fast on a desktop, and this is where you web designers need to consider how fast you website actually is.
You might actually have some web design agencies which actually push back on the customer’s requests, for example the customer might want a lot of videos incorporated into the homepage for example, yet a good web designer will say that is not really needed in some cases.
A good web designer may therefore focus on simplicity.
